Philam Life Fixed Income Fund

PHILAM LIFE FIXED INCOME FUND

The Philam Life Fixed Income Fund (PFIF) is a peso-denominated investment fund created specifically for variable life insurance contracts issued by The Philippine American Life and General Insurance Company (Philam Life). It is an investment option for the variable life policyholder with a preference for investing in high-quality interest-bearing debt instruments that present low to moderate levels of risk. This Fund aims to preserve capital and provide higher returns than those on traditional fixed-income investments over a medium to long-term investment horizon.

Eligible Investments

The PFIF will invest primarily in

  • Securities listed on or admitted to trading in a securities exchange located in the Philippines
  • Bonds or other evidences of debt of the government of the Philippines, or its political subdivisions authorized by law to issue bonds, or of government-owned or controlled corporations and entities, including the Central Bank
  • High-quality bonds or other evidences of debt of Philippine corporate issuers
  • New bond or debt issues which may reasonably be expected to be listed on a securities exchange
  • Money market instruments
  • Bank deposits
  • Cash

The Fund may also invest in

  • Foreign currency-denominated securities issued by Philippine entities, as well as foreign currency-denominated securities issued by non-Philippine entities which will be hedged back to peso
  • Other investments approved by the Insurance Commission

Investment Restrictions

  • For corporate issues, the Fund shall not invest in excess of ten per centum of its assets in any one corporation issuing such indebtedness.
  • The Fund shall not be allowed to borrow against any or all of its assets.
  • Any changes to the above investment policy or any portion therein, in accordance with company and regulatory policies and guidelines, require prior approval by the Insurance Commission

Portfolio Mix

The Fund may invest in short, medium and long-term debt instruments issued by the Philippine government and/or reputable corporate issuers, money market instruments and bank deposits or cash. The PFIF will invest primarily in medium to long term assets. The Fund Manager will determine allocation per asset type depending on the investment strategy, market conditions and Fund requirements.

Sufficient levels of cash and highly liquid instruments will be maintained to ensure availability of funds for servicing redemptions. Under exceptional circumstances such as when a substantial portion of the Fund cannot be sold, collected or valued, redemptions may temporarily be suspended.
